Powered by the PTO drive shaft via a fixed shaft, the gearbox transmits torque to the first chain gear connected to the compression chamber mechanism. In cutting versions, the gearbox with the second shaft powers the branch connected to the bladed rotor. These cutting versions may include an idle device which can be activated when the cutting rotor need not work. The disengaging device can be applied outside the gearbox. CMR Agriculture gearboxes can also be equipped with an internal lever-controlled disengaging device. The CMR Agriculture solution effectively simplifies the mechanics, thereby increasing the efficiency of the machinery, since the device installed inside the gearbox benefits from constant lubrication.

The gearboxes are usually installed inside the frame structure of the machine. CMR Agriculture offers innovative solutions featuring gearboxes with load-bearing extensions which totally or partially replace the frame structure of the round baler. Besides the mechanisms for fastening to the frame structure of the machine, the load-bearing extensions are also fitted with drawbar attachments. The PTO drive shaft used for this application is a standard wide-angle type which must always be fitted with a torque limiter. There are two possible options, depending on the user’s requirements: either the shear bolt or the clutch friction torque limiter with cupped spring washers. This type of limiter is recommended, as it guarantees the 50 mm minimum overlap between the shaft cones of the machine and the PTO drive shaft protection, an essential feature required by the EC Machinery Directive
