PTO drive shafts and spare parts
Our PTO drive shafts are designed to ensure effective power transmission from the tractor (Power Take Off) to the agricultural implements used (Power Input Connection).
Each PTO drive shaft consists of two couplings connected by telescopic tubes, ensuring maximum flexibility and reliability. The universal joint is made up of two yokes (inner and outer) and a transmission cross joint, essential components for safe and efficient operation.

PTO drive shafts general specifications
There are two different types of yokes:
- Inner for connecting to telescopic tubes. These yokes differ, depending on the type of tube.
- Outer to connect to the tractor PTO or the input shaft of the agricultural machine. They differ, depending on the size of the PTO.
The dimensions of the PTO drive shafts for 540 rpm power range from:
- size 1 up to 16HP.
- size 2 up to 21HP.
- size 3 up to 30HP.
- size 4 up to 35HP.
- size 5 up to 47CV.
- size 6 up to 60CV.
- size 7 up to 70HP.
- size 8 up to 90HP.
- size 10 up to 120HP.
The PTO drive shafts can be used for speeds up to 1,000 rpm. The maximum allowed length of the drive shaft varies based on the size of the tubes; for lengths exceeding 1,600 mm, it is advisable to consult the Technical Department.

HOMOKINETIC PTO drive shafts
We offer a wide range of 80° homokinetic PTO drive shafts. The versions can be equipped with a single homokinetic joint (single homokinetic) or with two homokinetic joints (double homokinetic). The simple version is used in all conditions where the operating machine must work even while steering. The double version is mainly used in machines with steering drawbars. It is also commonly used in ditch cleaners. Homokinetics are available in various sizes, capable of transmitting power from 35HP up to 130HP, depending on the number of revolutions, which preferably should not exceed 1,000 rpm.
The sizes of the cross joints for PTO drive shafts range from a diameter of 22 mm to 48 mm (special versions not available in the general catalogue can be made on request) and allow for power transmission up to 250HP. The range of PTO drive shafts is completed with joints and double joints. Furthermore, versions with yokes for tractor PTOs are available, including types with recessed push-button and/or ball collars and/or ball collars for homokinetic joints, in the following spline sizes:
- 1”3/8 Z6
- 1”3/8 Z8
- 1”3/8 Z21
- 1”3/4 Z6
- 1”3/4 Z20
Besides the sizes and types mentioned above, with recessed push-button and/or ball collar, the versions with machine-side yokes are made with:
- overrunning clutches (RA1 – RA2);
- ratchet torque limiters (SW1 – SW2 – SW3 – SW4);
- shear bolt torque limiters (SB1 – SB2);
- friction torque limiters with conical spring washers (FFT1 – FFT2 – FFT3 – FFT4);
- friction torque limiters with wire spring (FFV4);
- automatic torque limiters (AT1 – AT2);
- shear bolt limiters and overrunning clutch (SBR1);
- friction torque limiters with conical spring washer and overrunning clutch (FFTR2).
For technical and quality reasons, we do not include low-cost PTO drive shafts with welded yokes and tubes in our range. All our PTO drive shafts are equipped with a tube fastening using a yoke with an elastic pin. We only use cross joints with rollers, as sintered versions do not allow the universal joint to work at an angle without experiencing premature wear. All the transmission components we provide are designed and manufactured in compliance with the applicable safety regulations and according to the highest standards of reliability and functionality. Profiles of the telescopic tubes
We offer 4 different series of cardan joints which are distinguished according to the type of telescopic tube envisaged:
- T series – with 3-lobe telescopic tubes, the type of tube most used for all applications with cardan shafts with lengths up to 1,500 mm. The R series with Rilsan coating, anti-seizure on the inner tube, is also available for applications with frequent opening and closing of the cardan shaft (triangular);
- L series – with 2-lobe telescopic tubes, type of tube recommended for light applications, without excessive sliding and with limited power (lemon);
- C series – with 6-lobe telescopic tubes, used for high sliding and very long cardans, up to 2,200 mm (stellar);
- G series – with splined telescopic tubes, type of tube mainly used for extremely short cardan shafts.
Safety devices spare parts
PTO drive shafts must be subjected to thorough routine maintenance at least once a week. Greasing the rotating parts will ensure that the performance specifications indicated in the catalogue are maintained for at least 1,000 hours at working angles up to 5°.
In applications where the machine is liable to move around to a considerable extent, the following parts of the PTO drive shaft are the ones most subject to wear:
- the telescopic tubes and safety guards, since the tubes are continuously being withdrawn
- the cross-joints, since the angles are frequently changed
- the limiters, owing to frequent use.
Product description
We recommend annual maintenance, to coincide with the beginning of the new agricultural season, at which time the above mentioned components should be checked to make sure they function correctly.
If faults are discovered, the worn parts must be replaced to prevent the entire transmission from being damaged.
CMR Agriculture provides parts lists based on the drawings supplied to the customers and technical catalogues with exploded drawings to ensure that the replacement parts can be identified. The instructions for installing the parts are given in the operation and maintenance manuals supplied with each PTO shaft at the time of sale.
